EarthBound's magazine ad had some nauseating scratch-n-sniff things. (well, supposedly they were nauseating to some. When I was a stupid kid, I actually tried smelling those so I'd have an excuse to skip school. Didn't work for me.)
I do remember some people complaining to game magazines for running them.
