Foot lights on our stairway are epoxy pools of glass in the knot holes. They are triggered by a light motion sensor modified to drive a solid state relay which in turn switches a Dell power supply driving 11.5 V to approximately 35 LED lights.

I used the guts from this to drive the system:

  • @BladeBronson With so many LED's I would have had to buy a decent size wall transformer but since I had the supply on the shelf I did the fast and cheep thing.

  • A computer power supply... interesting. I wouldn't have thought of that.

  • I added the sensor/trigger I used in this system to the video description. I was going to use an outdoor motion sensor but this has the motion and light sensing built in. It will only turn on with dark and movement.

  • What components did you use for your set up? ive been researching this and cant really find any good explanation. Timers, sensors etc. Thanks a lot.
