Foot lights on our stairway are epoxy pools of glass in the knot holes. They are triggered by a light motion sensor modified to drive a solid state relay which in turn switches a Dell power supply driving 11.5 V to approximately 35 LED lights.
I used the guts from this to drive the system:

Motion Sensing LED Illuminated Stair lights.
@BladeBronson With so many LED's I would have had to buy a decent size wall transformer but since I had the supply on the shelf I did the fast and cheep thing.

A computer power supply... interesting. I wouldn't have thought of that.

I added the sensor/trigger I used in this system to the video description. I was going to use an outdoor motion sensor but this has the motion and light sensing built in. It will only turn on with dark and movement.

What components did you use for your set up? ive been researching this and cant really find any good explanation. Timers, sensors etc. Thanks a lot.
