This is simply a brilliant collaboration between songwriter and musician, showcasing the unique possibilities of the electric guitar along with nothing more than a bass, drum kit and acoustic guitar. Notice Jimi’s repeated, gradually progressing ascents up the scale with blistering notes. He seems to be gradually reaching for a note that he only finally hits at the end of the song, symbolic of the joker & thief's approach to the castle, and the imminent metaphorical storm.
Simply genius!

Listen to you people argue over who was better. MOOT POINT. Both Hendrix and Dylan are obviously full of genius. Jimi clearly LOVED playing Dylan tunes and Bob LOVED hearing Hendrix play his songs! Haters want an either/or universe but the TRUTH lies in the word BOTH!
