Dampkring isn't that far south really. if you get to the Leidseplein then you have walked about 10 minutes too far.
They have a 2nd shop about 5-10 mins from the Central Station also, which is just as nice...but isn't the one from the film...as that is why a lot of people go i find.
im from the uk and im going to be travelling by plaine....and were in amsterdam is all these the main and best coffee shops cause im guessing amsterdam is big thxx

Amsterdam really isn't that big. There are coffee shops everywhere so you'll be ok wherever you go. The Damkring is in the more southern part of the city near the Van Gogh museum called the Leidshplein. (probably not spelling it correctly) Definitely go to the Damkring. Most of the coffee shops have the same buds (white widow, northern lights, etc) So once you've tried those get something different from there on and you'll find something really great. Be sure to try the Nebula at the Damkring

It's been a while so I don't remember many names. Coffee shop Aroza is on Neijwendik st which is in the middle of the shopping district. Lots of coffee shops. (get off the train and go to the right)
The redlight district is cool and always has something going on. (get off the train and go left) I usually walk to an area that I like and then look for a hotel there. Expect to pay 80 dollars US to get a small single room.
