  • why should you still use an ftp server when there are online tools like dropbox etc?

  • @Wulfios okay here is a question for you Why the hell should i pay you to store my stuff? I can store up to 500GB of data on my server than paying $25Month for only 30GB of data that i can store so why should i pay you??

You understand what am trying to say and plus even if you had a course in IT you might end up learning what is an FTP server to access files and other stuff this is just a free basic configuration!!

  • your the boss man, I've been looking everywhere for a server tutortial with dynamic dns. My only problem is that I dont think my dsl modem/router supports ddns. I set up with no-ip.com and whenever I enter the host.domain it bring me to my default gateway :(

  • @Equinoxx1337 lol!!! thanks from what i know about dyndns is that you can use the dyndns updater which can automatically change your ip every time it changes so you don't need to worry if your DSL/Router supports DynDNS. from no-ip.com i have no idea since i never tried it so i don't know what to tell you!! :)

  • @KEdden1921 doesnt matter, i sorted it out. i had a different FTP Server running which i stopped

  • mine doesnt work even though i followed the video.. I have a vps server running windows server 2008. if i try to connect locally it just rejects the connection "as if the password is wrong" when it isnt and i cannot acces externally on my laptop.

its on a proper VPS so i would assume the ports are already open

  • @srether2 basically?

  • im gonna go ahead an click

    in ma head

  • @TheNerdAdventures In order for you to get a host name you need dyndns otherwise you can connect to your ftp server by using the static ip address. that's why the dyndns is optional but recommended its easier to remember pepito.dyndns.org then typing 98.78.512.215 and so on. For this project you don't need a domain controller what you are talking about is active directory and dns those are separate than dyndns and works entirely different!!

  • @MrBOSSLUIS can i get a host name without dyndns? and without making a domain controller, but i cbf to setup addc
