Well, since it always claims to be superior in every way, I'd expect the US to live up to the standards they are setting for themselves.

It's interesting that New Zealand comes in so high - New Zealand's GDP is a fair bit lower than Australia, Norway, Ireland etc so the other factors must be rather extraordinary there (health and education). To the contrary, the US GDP was a fair bit higher in 2008 than Australia for example, so it takes a little bit away from the US being where it is.

@camtra1 The "Human Development Report" this year just said that Saudi Arabia had better human development than Mexico, Serbia, El Salvadore, AND Brazil! Who cares what the UN says!
-
Yeah! Guess which country I'm from? Norway! We rule, hihi.:)

OH NO! USA NOT NUMBER 1! TIME TO PANIC!
I should also mention that the top 10 countries with the highest standard of living in the world ALL HAVE SOME FORM OF SOCIALZED(Universal) HEALTHCARE.
.
ALL OF THEM.
.
The Tea-party, which is running on the Republican party ticket, is against Universal Healthcare. The Republicans are against it as well.

@Someideasandstuff Also you should mention that the 2010 index is out and the U.S. is ranked 4th. Does it feel like we have risen 10 spots in two years?

@mixmastermeeks If you look at the 2010 HDI rankings on Wikipedia, you'll see that just below it is a new report, the "IHDI", which takes into account inequality. On that listing the US is ranked number 12, which is only an improvement of 1. The main article states that the new IHDI “captures the HDI of the average person in society”. Because of this, I consider it to be a more accurate representation of the HDI. Norway and Australia top this one too, which tells you how well they are doing.

That's "the most important video on youtube"?! ...that's overdramatized and misleading as hell. This stuff is common knowledge. Get a life. I'd say the most important video on youtube is "Zeitgeist 1&2" & "Religulus" @ the moment. ...and I have like twelve on here promoting my music business and outdoor guide service. ...that doesn't make them "the most important..." Bah

@KeithFoskeyMusic I don't think this is common knowledge, which is one of the reasons I made the video. I don't think the majority of Americans(over 50%) have ever even heard of the index.
