The security firm g4s is hitting the headlines yet again, and for all the wrong reasons. An unknown amount of money, believed to be more than 500 million shillings in foreign currencies, was stolen today after a G4s cash in transit van vanished in Mombasa. The van was reported to have shaken off a security escort car that was trailing it before disappearing to Mbaraki area where it was later traced with most of the money missing. Police are now looking for two men identified as Sylvester Mbisi Mutua from Mwingi and Humphrey Wekesa Wanjala from Bungoma, both employees of the security firm, who are believed to have been behind the heist. And as Andrew Ochieng reports g4s employees have been involved in at least three similar incidents in the recent past a situation that raises serious questions about the cash in transit operations in the country.

  • How do you pay someone 10,000/- per month and expect him to guard 5 million shillings everyday? TEMPTATION KIBAO!!!! One successful heist of 100 million...and you are comfortable.... hata wewe you can be tempted...after all the money is insured...its not FPE, or Maize funds!!!

  • aokoh is right. Cant expect a pauper to safe guard gold, isnt that how the saying goes? Anyway, the best way to prevent theft by guards is to track the guards. Put un-removable GPS locks on the guards, then you'll know where they are even after they steal the money. Use the type USA uses on home arrest peple, yaani electronic ankle bracelets. No one will steal if they know they'll be found 30 minutes later, duh!

  • In Europe the saftydeposit car whould have been rammed with stolen vehicles, then blown with c4. To make the doors open. Then 4 armed Albanians with ak-47 whould have moved money sacks with about 100 000 euro each into a fast car like an rs6 and driven away shooting at the police. And leaving behind somthing that looks like a war scene.... In mobasa you just open the door of some shitty truck and thats about it...;D

  • as long as citizens are not paid a living wage they will always steal---simple math

  • aokoh, good thinking,if the goverment are No 1 thieves why not a common man love those guys, they should still more.
