The new Southamapton Central Police Station opens on March 7th 2011 at 2pm after more than a year of construction and even more years of planning!
The new building replaces the now very outdated old police station at the Civic Centre which will shut at the same time the new one opens.
Around 450 people will work at the new Southampton Central in Southern Road. It will also be the HQ for the city's police service and has Hampshire largest custody centre with 36 cells. Ian Sainsbury takes us for a sneak preview around the building before everyone moves in!

  • @ademlc1969 It began construction long before the austerity measures introduced by the current government. Would be an even bigger waste if they had decided to pull the plug half way through

  • @GoldenLegends100 Produced by Southampton Corporate Communications, whoever they are. So no!

  • Hang on is this the actual police you tube site?sorry my mistake thought this was a new council building.what i meant to say was what a fantastic new building and well deserved i might add,so good to see tax payers money being spent so well, keep up the good work and hope you catch loads of crims.

  • What a complete waste of tax payers money!while the rest of us mere mortals have to suffer with cuts and rising prices they get brand new state of the art buildings, sounds about right.thats justice for ya.

  • Is that guy doing the tour a police officer? No - silly question, he can't be - can he..?

  • The old police station in Southampton at the Civic Centre opened in 1933!

Time for a change - nice building. I hope the officers won't spend too much time in there. Southampton has sadly become a much more violent city in recent years.

  • Brilliant vid. i watched that place get built from the foundations to the finishing touches. and all i can say is theyve done a very good job.

  • Looking good, will you be allowing pre organised tours around it as my college was thinking about taking our Public Services class here
