Boycotts are pointless! They accomplish NOTHING but to crush the dreams of innocent athletes. There are a thousand other ways to punish a country that we disagree with.
-
@Vermontist Um, the boycott changed NOTHING. The Soviets did not leave Afghanistan until 1989.

Actually, he still cares a great deal, and he has written about it several times. It was not an easy decision for him to make.

I, too, feel the loss of the great competitions that might have been. It is easy for us to forget that the boycott prevented a war that would certainly KILLED people. Yes, there are a huge variety of arguments surrounding this issue, but since I am one of the people who would have been in that war, I try to remind myself that there was much more than sports involved.

She was young in 1980, why didn't she continue on (1981...)?
-
Yeah, because the soviets didn't ruin loads of people's dreams when they invaded afghanistan. Idiot.
-
I'm sure Jimmy could care less about that at this point.
-
Did the commentator say that the gymnasts could score up to 10.6? I have NEVER heard that.

Damn you Jimmy Carter. You stole hundreds of people's dreams. Idiot.

Jimmy Carter was one of the worst Presidents, especially because he robbed hundreds of athletes of their Olympic dreams. I hope that man has trouble sleeping at night, knowing he destroyed so many people's dreams. Sicko.
