Lady in the Lake (1947)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0039545/

"The camera shows Phillip Marlowe's view from the first-person in this adaptation of Raymond Chandler's book. The detective is hired to find a publisher's wife, who is supposed to have run off to Mexico. But the case soon becomes much more complicated as people are murdered."

Director:
Robert Montgomery
Writers:
Raymond Chandler (novel)
Steve Fisher (screenplay)

incredible camerawork.
the movie is entirely 1st person.
and the overall mood makes it look like a 1st person RPG video game.
absolutely 'a must see'.
enjoy it!

  • Hitchcock's "Obsession" is worth a look, in this same experimental POV genre.

And The Firesign Theatre's "Nick Danger" was born here.

  • thanks for pointing that out.

  • gugle for stage 6 if you want to see/get the full movie.

I'm glad you enjoyed the upload.

    cheers

  • This first person view is so brilliant and clever for 1947, why haven't many modern films followed this? I know some films have short views of First person, but why not have it entirly though a film.

  • Many people don't like the subjective camera,

    I think it's brilliant!...I've seen this

movie many times and I just love it.Oh and,

    you're right "boldello",Audrey Totter is

    very good looking!!!

  • @Daltonson Do you know "enter the void"? from the director Gaspard Noé. The first half of the movie is a first person view of the principal character... who is taking drugs. I really enjoyed this movie. Maybe you will?

  • he has a private dick.ha ha

  • creepy camera work.I like it

  • This reminds me the CD-ROM interactive movies

  • @Daltonson Sarah Kane tried to fund such a film in the 90s, but it didnt wok out. it should have been a short film on eating disorders.

  • When Gaspar Noe was tripping on Magic Mushrooms and watched this, he decided to film "Enter the Void" In first person also. Brilliant.

  • vaya mierda de video

  • Does anyone know where I can watch the full movie?

  • thanks for posting this! All I can find, living in the UK... :-(

  • "I don't see this as anything but dialogue! If it wasn't visible it could have beeen written in any genre!"
