That's SO Gay

My take on the idea that calling things "gay" (as in 'That's so gay') is homophobic or not, and how seriously we should take it. It's extremely rife in schools across the country, if not the world. Is it as bad as some make out?

Well, the word "faggot" used to mean a bundle of wood, and "nigger" never used to be offensive at all, it simply meant you had black skin. Mark Twain used it with no racist intent at all, as well as many other writers at the time. Just some random thoughts/information. Not trying to be offensive. Good video :P

I find this usage of the world really offensive. It is used in a negative way and therefore shedding a negative light upon the gay community. All my friends say it! And I hate it!

Yeah, I know people that share that view. I mean I just don't, because... well I dunno, I just don't care lol. I don't think people INTEND on calling something "gay" because they think that being gay is bad/sad/useless/stupid, it's just infected our the lexicon of informal chat.

well I'm not gay but most of my friends that are gay don't find saying gay offensive at all and actually call things gay. Even though I know most people who are gay don't mind the word gay being used offensively I still don't like saying it. What if every gay person started saying "that's so straight" I'm pretty sure a lot of straight people would be mad. So why should it be any different?

Even if you are not saying something with malicious intent it can still hurt people. Casual homophobia is no less insidious and dangerous than casual sexism or racism. You steadily build up a tolerance to it until you become as bad as a hateful racist because you don't see it as a bad thing, and will stand by and let persecution happen, like what happened in Nazi Germany, when lots of normal people stood by and watched atrocities
