Thank you Brandi for doing that bamboo tutorial. I watched it and tried it immediately. You made it quite simple and it was easy to follow. Mine came out really well. Thank you very, very much. I also looked at your hibiscus tutorial. Have you done a video of how to do the stamen yet< I am looking forward to that. I have to make a hawaiian theme cake and I would like to add a hibuscus.
Thanks again. You are indeed talented.

Thank you! I am watching your hibiscus video. I am making a tiki cake for a friend's daughter. One more question (if you don't mind). I make marshmallow fondant. I am not a cake baker, but i am an artist and wish I knew more about cake products. Anyway, do you make your own fondant and do you recommend marshmallow fondant? Thank you SOOOO much!!!!

Marshmallow fondant doesn't harden/stiffen up the way that manufactured fondant does... so while it is just fine for covering a cake, or creating accents (polka dots, etc.) - I don't find it works well for thicker pieces that need to stand up (like the bamboo, or figures) - as it starts to sag. You can try mixing tylose or gumtex into it and that might help.

Hi! Great tutorial :). Are those paints edible or just regular paints? Thanks much!

They are food colors.

Great tutorial! Just one question, do you paint the bamboo directly on the cake or do you take them off the foam or whatever that thing is? I'm just wondering if it will tear or break if you take it off.
thanks again!

I do the bamboo directly on a cake - not styrofoam. I just used the foam for the demo. You can stick it on a layer of fondant, or even buttercream - and then paint it while it's on the cake. It goes much faster to paint it while it's on the cake.
