The course tackles the "how" of developing innovative new services that rely heavily on information and IT. Examples include tracking services (RFID), financial services, metaverse services (retail in secondlife), transportation services (kiosks), eVoting, distance learning, etc.
I'll be drawing from my research on this topic as well as from personal experience co-founding a software company. So, I think this class will be very interesting and a major value add for any MBA concentration.
The class will be: highly interactive, comfort zone busting, dynamic, creative, value added.
The class will not be: HBS cases, long lectures, powerpoint mania.
More information is here: http://www.engin.umich.edu/mpowered/uploads/ServiceInnovationMgmt%20Backgroun...
I should also mention that I expect a rather eclectic blend of students, perhaps including those from engineering and the school of information. This will make things all the more interesting.
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to discuss the course with me (and feel free to forward this email to anyone whom you think may be interested).
Best,
Prof. Melville
