WASHINGTON Complaints of deaths connected to sudden acceleration in Toyota vehicles have surged in recent weeks, with the alleged death toll reaching 34 since 2000, according to new consumer data gathered by the government.

The latest recall, announced Thursday, Jan.21, 2010, affects the RAV4, Corolla, and Matrix models from 2009 and 2010, Avalons from model years 2005 to 2010, Camrys from 2007 to 2010, the 2010 Highlander, the 2007 to 2010 Tundra and the 2008 to 2010 Sequoias. About 1.7 million of the vehicles cited are also affected by the earlier recall.

The company says this action is separate from fall's recall of 4.2 million cars to replace floor mats and alter accelerator pedals. The company had blamed floor mats for many of the acceleration incidents. An ABC News investigation, however, found that many drivers and safety experts rejected this explanation, asking instead if there was an issue with the electronic components that control acceleration.

Toyota says the recall of the "sticking gas pedals" covers Haggerty's problem, but he says his gas pedal was never stuck.

In its statements, Toyota does not claim the "sticking gas pedal" recall is a complete fix and says it will continue to investigate other incidents of unwanted acceleration, including those cited by ABC News.

  • @Ragrog105 Toyota didn't hide their face in these recalls, in fact the President of the Company himself made apologetic appearances via media, congress, and international speeches.

  • @falconx1 You are 100% correct., Akio Toyoda, the president and CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation, did in fact, get up in front of a Congressional hearing, and indeed did apologize for lying and hiding the facts, which was systematically done, with his knowledge, over a period of many years.

  • only in America... My god how people are stupid. Can't believe this really happened. Yeah Toyota's CEO did apologize for that because he knew perfectly well that if he didn't he would lose too much of his huge share of the cake. But in his heart the guy was hurt. He's had to lie because of stupid people. This was nothing but a communication operation you crazy people. Get your damn carpet away from your gas pedal, if you're too old or retarded to do that, just put the damn car in neutral !!

  • なぜかこの後ソニーと続いていく

    いつものことだけどな

  • The 2nd place of the sales of Toyota are China.

How about already stopping the US and moving to others? Japanese company bashing is a U.S-basis and plan of US government.

Many countries want to the TOYOTA's factory. Profits will not come out in the US.

  • I WAS ALMOST KILLED IN MY TOYOTA '06 4 RUNNER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WITH MY TWO YEAR OLD IN THE BACK! NEVER EVER EVER WILL I BUY ANOTHER TOYOTA!! THIS WAS BEFORE ALL THIS CRAP WAS IN THE MEDIA...THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY FLOOR MATS!! TO BAD MY ATTORNEYS PROVED OTHERWISE. I HAVE BEEN CONTACTED FROM AROUND THE GLOBE FROM LAWYERS THAT HAVE CASES AGAINST TOYOTA. THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM....WAIT UNTIL THESE CARS GET HIGER MILES AND ARE KILLING NOT ONLY THE PEOPLE DRIVING THEM BUT ALSO THE INNOCENT!

  • @888shelly888 - so why aren't you dead yet?

  • I'm so glad I stuck wth Dodge.. may not be the best quality but at least I am safe!

  • @cjrush1009 Maybe. Hey, I loved your video about Atheists. Anyone reading this should go check it out. cjrush1009 is right on about what he says.

  • @Ragrog105 I think you are over simplifying the issue.

  • @cjrush1009 Racist? Only if buying American products, made by Americans, keeping the corporate profit here is what you consider racist. Narrow, absolutely. I remember the 50's when Americans bought American products, made by Americans. Unemployment was under 3%. Now, try to find anything that we invented still being made here. I will never shop China*Mart, Target or anyplace that sell cheaply made products by children or slave prison labor. China's military is now modernized thanks to the U.S.A.

  • @Ragrog105 a bit racist and and narrow, Toyota has factories here too, they employ a lot of people here.
