I forgot to mention how grateful I've been to all the friends who have come over and spent time with me! It really helps having company when i don't really have the energy to go places :)

The procedure I had was to correct an anterior open bite which caused some problems with eating, chewing, breathing, talking and pain in my jaw joints. I had a maxillary impaction, lower sagittal split and advancement and functional genioplasty advancement.

  • You said that you had maxillary impaction, do you mean that they reduced the length of your maxilla? Cause that's what I'm having done (about 5mm) and I'm really worried about what happens to the excess skin. Like the corner of your mouth being way to lower then your teeth.

In your opinion did your skin and facial muscles adapt?

  • @nameYUnoavailable Hi! Yes, I had a maxillary impaction - I think they took off probably between 3-5 mm. It was good for me because my lips never could comfortably close over my teeth (they still don't fully, but it's much better now!). I think my top lip is definitely in a different place, but I certainly don't feel like my lips sit below a normal place on my face. My skin and muscles have adapted with no problems! The shape of my lips are different but I still like how I look. Ask away :)

  • I just had a maxillary impaction 3 days ago... and I have a hard time swallowing pills and I haven't been taking my antibiotics. Do you think it's okay? I brush my teeth like 4 times a day now and rinse my mouth with salt water... not taking my antibiotics won't cause an infection will it? :S

  • @hotchnerreid The best thing to do is of course to ask your surgeon/doctor! I didn't have any pills to take when I had mine, but I did have some liquid medication (mostly pain relief) and some antibiotic mouth rinse. It's good that you are keeping your mouth super clean - remember to be gentle so you don't pull your stitches out! I think you should try to get some liquid medication if you're having trouble swallowing pills.

  • @DeeConn thanks for the tip! :) I can barely even swallow water, I don't know why they'd give me a giant pill. Also, do you know how long it usually takes for the stitches to go away?

  • @hotchnerreid I didn't really swallow much - I had a large syringe that I pretty much just squirted down my throat, so make sure you get one of those! I think my stitches started coming out around the 1 month mark.

  • @perfekteme I feel great now, and I'm very happy with the outcome of the procedure. My advice is: it won't look exactly as you imagined it would, but it will be better than before. Make sure you are completely ready to permanently change your face before you get it done. I was lucky that my parents paid for my surgery - it was quite expensive, but I think it has been worth it for me.

  • @perfekteme Yes, I did get a procedure on my chin, but it's not an implant - it's what is called a "sliding genioplasty"

  • Does it Hurt so bad ????.... whoah just by saying it , i t's like your really having a really painful time ...

  • @DeeConn Most of it was covered. My husband and I had to pay 1900.$, but our employer's insurance should cover most of that. He seems a little better day by day. It must suck with that diet, though.....
