Saxilby Station, Lincolnshire.
Saturday 16th April 2011.
Loco & DMU's featured: 67005 "Queen's Messenger", 142021, 153383 & 156411.
A visit for a couple of hours after work to Saxilby station to see UK Railtours' "York & the line that time forgot" railtour from Woking to York & return, but first, 142021 calls at Saxilby on a Scunthorpe to Lincoln via Sheffield service. Next is 153383 on a Lincoln to Doncaster service, then 156411 on the same service in the opposite direction. Lastly, 67005 passes through Saxilby on 1Z50 York to Woking return working, running via Gainsborough, Lincoln, the Sleaford avoiding line & Splalding back to Woking.
Taken against many other counties, LIncolnshire is poorly served by the passenger rail compnies. THe fact that traction such as class 142s and 153s abound on this route shows that. B Ut the big problem is east of Lincoln. Did you know that travel from LIncoln is almost impossible after 7pm at night? And on Sundays... forget it! The TOCs are supposed to make an effort to sell their services, but not in LIncolnshire it seems!
