The Bubblegum coral (Paragorgia arborea) is a large and slow-growing coral that can reach more than 3 meters in height. This video shows an assemblage of rather large specimens near the summit of the Davidson Samount, an extinct submarine volcano that sits approximately 70 miles southwest of Monterey, CA within the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Video was acquired from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute's remotely operated vehicle, Tiburon. Much of this footage is featured in the Discovery Channel's/BBC series, "Blue Planet."
