"I love the way you lie..."

Ready, pose, flash. Ready, pose, flash. This was a routine Wednesday for Miley Cyrus. She was used to the countless meetings, magazine interviews, video shoots and photo shoots. Currently she was pouting her lips and giving her signature peace sign to a photographer from Seventeen magazine. She had been on their cover a few times, and now had been named one of their "Top 20 Most Influential Teenagers", which Miley considered to be a huge honor. Another reason Miley liked photo shoots such as this one was the clothes. Today's stylist had hooked her up with a loose fitting white top, sequined shorts and peep toe boots that showed off her legs. Miley felt completely in her element, unlike most photo shoots where they wanted her to wear pink tutu-like dresses and make her out to be some sort of princess. That was never who Miley wanted to be. And now, as she approached her eighteenth birthday, she finally felt like she could express herself through her clothing and actions.

As she danced around to Lady Gaga and filled the final frames with flirty poses, she was ready for part two of today's adventure: the interview. She sat at a round table and sipped on a Starbucks coffee. Coffee was like a magical force in Miley's life. Amidst all the craziness of Los Angeles, coffee had a way of relaxing her. She closed her eyes and took another sip, savoring each second. "Hi, I'm Amanda! So nice to meet you." A voice spoke, breaking Miley's silence. "Nice to meet you too." She responded, giving Amanda a smile and shaking her hand. "Before we get started I just want to tell you how incredible I think you are. And I'm not just saying that, I truly think you are amazing." Amanda spoke, and Miley's smile grew into a complete grin. "Thank you so much!" She said, "That really means a lot to me." Amanda smiled and sat down across from Miley, preparing for the interview.

She took out a small tape recorded and pressed the red button. "Hello this is Amanda Jones from Seventeen Magazine here with Miley Cyrus, one of our most influential teenagers. So Miley, what does it feel like to be called 'influential'?" Miley paused for a second, swallowing the question. It was an old habit she had developed, to protect herself from saying anything she would later regret. "It feels awesome!" She started, "You know, there are days when things get so crazy and you feel completely alone, and then there's a day like today when everything really gets put into perspective. The fact that other teenagers can look at me and be like, 'She's a good person.' or 'She really has had an impact on my life.' means everything to me." Miley took her time and answered a couple more questions, until Amanda took her reporting to another level. "And what about you and Nick Jonas? Are you still friends with him?" Miley froze. Every organ in her body suddenly felt like it shut down and she couldn't speak. She felt the sweat building on her forehead and gulped. "Nick?" She started, "He and I, we.. uh.." A thousand possible answers flew through her brain. She could give the old robotic Disney answer, pretending they were best friends. Or she could tell the absolute truth and risk having him never talk to her again. Or she could lie. And at that moment, lying made complete sense to her. "You know, things with Nick have been difficult because we do have such a complicated past." True. "We both are trying really hard to maintain a good friendship." False. "We try and hang out as often as possible." Completely false. "And you know, I still love him and want to have him in my life forever." True. "But as of right now, we're both in a good place and we're giving each other the space we need to grow and mature." Also true. Well partially. Miley smiled, thoroughly proud of herself for not ripping Nick to shreds and for not telling the entire world how in love with Nick she really was.

The interview finished, and Miley walked out of the studio with her mom and into a sea of photographers, all dying to get shots of the Teen Queen. Miley sighed and put on a fake smile before hopping into her car and driving away.
