@Shaggy3A not lies exactly, but with statistics you have to be sure that you get a fair sample to collect data from. They might have conducted their research by asking readers of a paranormal magazine if they believe in ghosts, they may then claim that a certain % of people liviing in the UK believe in ghosts, but this wouldn't be a fair study because the sample would be biased, people who magazines like this are more likely to believe in ghosts I expect.

@dave00dance What they do is ask 50 people the question. If 23 say they believe then they say 42% of Brits believe in ghosts. It's how polls work, it would be impossible to ask everyone so they take a random sample. The larger the sample the more accurate the result.
