This shows the proper use of a scythe. It is an extract from a much longer video which talks about threshing and demonstrates old farm machinery. Well worth a look at the whole video if you are into that sort of thing

  • I WANT A SCYTHE!!!!!

  • Weedeater - noisy, expensive to hire, need safety gear, 2 stroke oil and petrol and you have to work flat out all day if it's hired out.

Scythe - go at your own pace, keep the blade sharp, develop your technique, get a good workout, no running costs and you can hear the birds singing!

End of oil people - it's back to the old ways!

  • if we all used this shit we'd be way better off i mean really pay 4.65 for gas (in your region) or use a fucking scythe or a sickle or a grass whip its not science its just free and awesome

  • i use to do this when i was a child on my gandparents farm,i love my SCYTHE,my luck was thay i was instructed in teh basics of using a BO staff, and and whit the combination of the SCYTHE i develop some cool moves, and slice attacks:)

  • this video is from ireland? i remember my father using his scythe. he worked all his life in a noisy environement in geology , a french drilling company for mining exploration . but he was happy to use his scythe . now i understand why. it's clean and silent. i am going to use it now.

  • I want a Scythe too!!! Hell yeah!! End to oil reliance for America baby. Scythes are going to make America less oil reliant, one swipe at a time.

  • Hi all, great vid, I have Q's.

I do this work several times a week now, new for me, it's great but I need more technique.

    1) How do you often collect your 'catch' so neatly on the left, you pull it up at the end orso, do I move too slow ? My catch often falls where I cut it :-(

    2) Sharpening, on one side for a rookie or two, how to start ? Sure experience but how do you prevent cutting yourself while doing 2 sides, what basic move is that ? Thanks

    Mark

  • not really happy with his style - looks like he is putting to much force into it and bends over too much, particularly with such a big skythe - but the rest is sound advice

  • wow, its that useful? great innovation

  • I never knew how efficient those were! I need to get my antique one out of my brother's garage!

  • Lehmans. An online store that sells alot of Ahmish made things as well as made in USA items. great company.
