I was originally going to attend Camden Military Academy but after the tour, video and overall LOVE for Hargrave, I am now starting school there in the fall and plan to be a part of the Hargrave graduating class of 2012

Also, I had a wonderful time at Hargrave and did improve some aspects of myself. I am not bad mouthing Hargrave in any way but I would like to prevent any more experiences like mine.

HMA is an experience I wish all could have the benefit of. What you get from HMA wont be limited to an academic score or rank on the parade field. The character and integrity that you will develop will serve you for your entire life - regardless of your career path. It wasnt always easy and I doubt I would call all of my first year fun, but I wouldn't replace a single moment or memory. If you have the opportunity to attend HMA, do it! You wont regret being an Alumni. HMA Class of 1987.

I was a cadet at Eastern Military Academy at Long Island NY. It eventually evolved into the Marine Academy. I was 16. It was hard, in some ways useless, but many of the things I learned there have stayed with me. Some of these things that carried me through tough times were discipline, team work, and taking the time to do it right the first time. The down side was not being able to be tender with those that I came to love. Military school is a mixed bag at best.

Hargrave is sorry to hear about your military school experience at Eastern Military Academy. Hargrave is a college preparatory school. Our Cadets are on the college track, and don't suffer the corrective discipline you described. (We do have a 'bullring' for marching and PT for training.) Most people think military schools are for reform. Some foolishly start military schools for that purpose. VMI, The Citadel, the US Naval Academy and West Point are NOT reform schools, and neither is Hargrave.
