I practice in front of my computer with a huge LCD monitor (actually it's the only chair I have in my tiny apartment). I find that great benefits come from short practice sessions if done regularly. If it's easy to pick up an instrument, with the intent to play for a few minutes only, you will pick up the instrument more often - AND play a bit longer more often too.
Within 5 feet of my computer, I have 3 guitars and 4 ukes.
Also, bookshelves are bad stands in earthquake zones!
having a poor setup in your practice environment is a good way to encourage poor practice habits and inefficiency... thanks for the tips! I like the small area, where everything you need is within close proximity. The homemade stand is an excellent Idea.
Great stuff!
