which begs the obvious question, what kind of chasm will Allison's departure open in the mythos, and what might the consequences of staring into this particular abyss be, for both Clark and the series. Allison's smile does "end up singing" in every meaningful manner, while the "forgotten promises" of Lana, especially with the "sister" setup, is practically threnody. An unleavened delight from title to credits, a masterful manifestation of what artistry and technical skill can do hand-in-hand.

In retrospect this appears so inevitable a pairing, so unthinkable an omission from my mental checklist of suitable songs as to be positively embarrassing, but you have served it full measure and more here. The rending undertones of perpetual sorrow which Karen's one-of-a-kind voice brought to every pitch perfect rendition are augmented beyond expression by such juxtaposition as "smallest of dreams won't come true" with Clark on the football field. The title does seem utterly apropos for the BFF
