Albertville, FRANCE - 1992 Winter Games, Figure Skating, Ladies' Free Skate - Tonya Harding of the United States skated a strong enough performance that would move her up from 6th to 4th Place overall.
That was actually quite a great skate. She went for the 3axel but fell and then, doubled the toe and salchow but she threw back in the 3toe at the end, so the only missing triple was the salchow. Her 3loop is still unmatched, IMO.
I think this program was technically superior, however, I saw her skate this same program at Skate America 1991. The performance at Skate America had something that somehow wasn't present at this one. The judges saw that as well, that's why she got low artistic marks. It wasn't a bad program at all, it was just everyone knew she was capable of much better.
@BobtailTM30 I agree. Tonya's performance was better then Nancy's that year. She landed the triple lutz and triple doubled her combination. Nancy's mistakes over shadowed her artistry. Let's be real, Nancy Kerrigan was never the best skater, she had two strong performances at 94 Olympics but never really wowed people prior to that. Tonya was an amazing athlete, but her marriage to that scumbag interfered with her skating. It would have been fir to give her the bronze that year.
I believe Tonya should have won the bronze medal at this Olympics! Sure this was not a great perfomance, but none of the female skaters perfromed well at the 92 Olympics. Nancy Kerrigan's performance was awkward and painful to watch. Tonya's wasnt that good either, but better than Nancy!!!
If she just could've nailed that triple axel.... I would've given her the bronze. Would've given the gold to Midori but that's just because I love Midori and think she's far more exciting to watch than Kristi, and more talented even on her off nights.

At least she showed some fight, it was better technically than Kerrigan. I would have had Chen Lu in third as well
