Team finals at Kodokan Fukuoka: Jodan vs Judan match

On March the 15th 2009 I was in Fukuoka and I spent some time doing mitori-geiko at Budokan, where there was a teams tournament.

I found extremely exciting the uchi-otoshi men that gave the second ippon to the Jodan.

Why does this seem boring to me while professional go games leave me flabberghasted?

I don't get it man hehe.. one guy is the attacker and other guy is defender maybe ?.. I reckon they should just keep going non stop till someone is on the ground crying for their momma

The sounds they're making are called "kiai" and are basically projections of one's fighting spirit from the abdomen. As to the goal of the match, they're both trying to strike the other with proper form, adequate spirit and striking force, as well as accuracy and follow through. Such valid strikes are awarded points. The reason they might seem hesitant at times is because of pressure exerted by each other. It's difficult to describe. To understand it, you have to feel it.

wow. this is very interesting. thats a very strong and good jodan
