My framed/mounted version of an Atari Punk Console. I had two of these installed at a cool artsy party festival kinda thing called Kosmic where I also performed a set with my toys. It was a good night!

  • why do you call it punk? shouldn't it be electronica?

  • Well, this circuit is based on one designed by Forrest Mimms and was later nicknamed Atari Punk console. Who named it that and why I can't say.

I must however say I like a little electronica in my punk rock these days.

  • There is insane harmony here

  • Thanks! I think you're the third or fourth person to recommend that to me, so I'll definitely have to get it. It must be really good!

  • If you like that kind of visual representation and are interested in building circuits from scratch I highly recommend buying Nic Collins book "Handmade Electronic Music-The Art of Hardware Hacking"

He walks you through some cool stuff step by step all with pics of the circuits being laid out on proto boards. Very helpful.

  • Ah, got it. Excellent. Yeah, I actually remember seeing that before. That's as close as I've seen to what I'm looking for. I'll have to try that out. Thanks!

  • I tried to put it in the message but you can't post actual websites in comments.Try this

    google: worthekik apc

  • Thanks for the tip, though do you have a direct link? I can't seem to find the exact spot you're referring to on the getlofi site. Thanks!

  • My brain struggles to understand schematics but what helped me out with this one was Mathew Helms board layout on getlofi. I bet this will make the difference for ya.

  • No, I'm certainly in possession of thumbs. I'll rephrase: I wish APCs were in my realm of electronics building knowledge. I have yet to find any good resources that don't require a slightly higher than basic level of electronics schematic reading ability. The Lego thing is a good analogy, but just like Lego, if you don't have the right pieces, you'll just have something that looks pretty but falls apart easily. If you have any good ideas for resources, I'm all ears. And thumbs.
