@turnbs Not wrong there, C's are V16 645 turbo charged (second generation) EMD engines, where as the 82 & DL class have a V12 710 (third generation) of comparable power . The first generation EMD engines where the 567 series and these were roots blown.

When it comes to sheer locomotive noise you cannot beat the C class. It radiates the sound of power.

Entertaining video. If you wanted to know, these "small" coal rakes normally run at a nominal 3344 tonnes gross trailing load (about 2550 tonnes of coal). Maximum load for 3 x C class up Zig Zag is 3393 tonnes. The curves on Zig Zag are very sharp for a main line, a long curve of 200 metres (10 chains) radius, and two shorter curves of 160 metres (8 chains) radius.

Thank you sth475-most interesting. The driver said that he had 3380 tonnes on board so he was obviously cutting it fine. One or two lumps more and he would have been over the limit!! Lol
