In 2008 Assemblyman Jack Quinn and two of his fellow Assembly Republican colleagues established the RemaiNY statewide task force. With a stated goal of implementing policies that would reverse the exodus of New Yorks brightest minds and youthful talent to more economically attractive areas of the country, the task force has conducted listening tours across the Empire State. These forums have taken place in Elmira, Syracuse, Poughkeepsie, Long Island and New York City, and serve as collaborative workshops between local institutions of higher education, workforce development organizations, and labor and business leaders.
The forums have facilitated discussion between the aforementioned entities and political leaders including county executives, mayors, area state senators and assemblymembers, and borough presidents. In addition to meeting with business leaders, facilitated by the Buffalo Niagara Partnership and Buffalo Niagara 360 young professionals program, the Buffalo forum included meetings with the Buffalo Building Trades, area university and college presidents and County Executive Collins.
