On Sunday 22 August 2010, a Cape Town landmark, the Athlone Towers were demolished. The event caused great excitement and drew record crowds on a dreary winters day. @Squarerig agreed...they stood for what 60 years or something..formed part of the scenery - people would be so used to them on the horizon - then bang they are gone forever in like 6 or 7 seconds! Suppose its all down to progress....but then how have we progressed when Ireland is in the grip of a financial crisis!
