The beautiful Ise Oluwa (Many Rains Ago) sang at Sing For Water 2010.
---------------
Some history;
In the series "Roots", Letta Mbulu sang the title track, an old Yoruba (a Nigerian people and their language) song "Ishe Oluwa" aka 'Many Rains Ago', adapted and re-arranged by Ntate Caiphus which she later performed in a front of a stupefied audience of a Season 6 episode of Soul Train. When asked about the song, she explained it to say, "What God has made no man can do better or destroy".
The lyric of the song speaks of the sacred baobab tree losing its children to the seas, in the form of ships carrying slaves to America. In the depths of the song she bids the Motherland goodbye in a manner that one feels that her expulsion from South Afrika might as well have chained her hands and feet and put her on that slavery ship with Kunta Kinte.
absolutely magnificent :)
