PS3 Yellow Lights of Death

I got home and started up GTA 4 and the system shut down and will not turn on. Now I have to spend $150 dollars to fix it. SONY's the BEST!! sarcasm

This happened in 2008 and happened a year later in 2009 around the same time as this one died. Hopefully it doesn't happen again this year or I will be very mad.

@UncleGyro I have two...both are dead at the moment but they were given to me dead and i fixed one which worked for about a year and the other one just gave up on life all together.

i had this problem and i held in the power button until it beeped 3 times and it brought me to a screen saying reconnect my controller and then it brought me to a menu of like 5or6 options. i choose opt. 3 and then it brought it back to normal

@Juggalotheonefreak Do you have the ps3 slim because I don't believe the old ones have these options you speak of. If you can explain a bit more, what you said may be believable.

@bestscape if you have the knowledge and tools to fix it, do it yourself but if you don't call sony if you want to pay $150 or go to Google and type in ps3 repair. There are trusted websites that do it for cheap.

Some models can eject the game with the fan test.

1. Turn mains off

2. Hold eject and turn mains on.

3. The fan operates at its highest speed for about 15 seconds (should eject at start of this if not try again)

4.Turn mains off

only works on some models though

Yeah I like this video. I had the same problem, I fixed it for free by myself I made a video on my page its clear has easy intructions for you to complete for yourself.

Holy Shit its like PS3 turing to X box. Hope someone knows how to fix this problem without letting Sony fix it. Happened to mine.

@ScorpionMHS09 I know what you do. You turn of your PS3 (Works with fat too) Then you hold the power button till you hear 3 beeps(First one does not count) Then a menu will pop up then you connect your Controller. The menu will have "Restore PS3" of Restart PS3 then you press one of those and wait.
