  • Talking of CPUs...

Im planning on getting a HD4770 but Im kind of afraid that my CPU is gonna inhibit its performance.

My CPU atm is Intel Core 2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz.

Should I upgrade my CPU before getting a new video card???

  • Yes the 6300@1.86Mhz will not be nearly fast enough for the 4770. Here is a tip. Go watch my 4850 and 4770 world at war videos. Watch closely the framerate indicator. The 4850 video is not of good quality so you will have a bit of a harder time.

As you will see the 4770 video has much better framerate. The 4770@830Mhz is a tiny bit faster than the stock 4850 but there is a signigicant difference!

The reason for this is the cpu. E6600@2.88Ghz vs X3-720@3.4Ghz!

  • What you should try before spending a lot of money for a new cpu, is get a Scythe Mugen 2 cpu cooler and try overclocking your cpu to 3.2Ghz. I think that the E6300 can easily do it.

I once had an E2160 and managed to overclock it all the way up to 3.4Ghz!

  • indeed CPU does plays a huge factor. but izzit only certain games CPU plays a factor or every game?

  • It is not the same for every game. Or even the same game with different settings. Take Crysis for example. If i keep my Q9550 at stock clock i get 40fps in 1920X1080 with high settings. When i overclock it to 4.1Ghz, i get 60fps on the same settings.

In very high settings i always get 40fps no matter what the cpu clock is.

So it is a matter of finding the balance between cpu and gpu. Sometimes a game gets cpu limited and sometimes it gets gpu limited. You need both good cpu and gpu!

  • nice one!~

  • sweet

  • core 2 is perfect for this 4770 , ,,

  • TSMC has reported that all 40nm problems have been solved and are in full production now. The 5000 series chips are manufactured as we speak. Rumor has it that in September ATI will launch four new cards!

  • They're having trouble with the 4770's. =/ The 5000 series was supposed to be released July, but I don't think we'll start seeing them till October or later. And when we do see them, lets hope they have models out they don't over charge, and that they stay competitive with the GTX 200 and upcoming 300 series which I believe is scheduled for November.
