Youngones - Marie - Nice Early 60's Doo Wop Ballad

The Youngones were a Puerto Rican group from Brooklyn. The Yussels label belonged to Joe Schulman and was based in Newark, NJ. This probably explains why the record was a hit in Northern NJ (namely the Newark area) and pretty much nowhere else in the country - not even in The Youngones home turf of Brooklyn. This isn't considered a "rare" record, but it was relatively low production and from what I hear is very hard to find outside of the NY Metro area.

Outstanding! I never heard this song growing up in Maryland, and I was tuned into the radio from '54 on (when I started 1st grade). This song is almost an anachronishm, i.e., released in '63. It sounds late '50s. As far as I'm concerned, living in the day, rock 'n' roll, especially doo wop, changed by the end of '63, when the British invasion started. To me, "Marie" is the most doo woppish (if there's a phrase) for so late in the doo wop era (1963). Long live doo wop! Love it.
