Some clips of the guards bands and soldiers marching from Wellington Barracks along the Mall to Horse Guards Parade for the Major General's Review on Saturday 29 May 2010.

The first band is the band of the Irish Guards, seen leaving Wellington Barracks and passing Buckingham Palace. This is followed by the Welsh Guards, the Coldstream Guards and the Scots Guards, all marching down The Mall. The final band is the band of the Grenadier Guards with two Corps of Drums playing.

Major General W G Cubitt CBE, Major General Commanding the Household Division, took the Salute at the parade which followed on Horse Guards Parade. In effect, however, this is the first full rehearsal for the Trooping of The Colour which takes place two weeks after this parade and which celebrates the official birthday of the Queen. This year the colour to be trooped is that of the 1st Battalion, The Grenadier Guards with the trooping performed by The Queen's Company.

At the first rehearsal there are no guards lining the parade route, and, as no member of the Royal Family is present, the drum majors do not wear state dress.

  • Trying to find a recording of Guards band playing Flying Eagle and Ulster Division marches. Can anyone advise me. The tempo of these marches would be perfect for Cobourg's 598 Squadron Air Cadets Annual Review and March Past. No luck finding a CD here in Canada.

  • @windy344 Hi there. Try bandleaderrecordings in the UK, in particular recordings BB 32 and BNA 5204 which include the two marches you are interested in. Good luck, and I hope these fine tunes enhance your Review and March Past.

  • Great video as usual thebigdrum!

Marches "Ulster Division" Irish Guards Band "Europe United" Welsh Guards Band "Carry On" Coldstream Guards Band "Washington Grays" Scots Guards Band "Galanthia" Corps Of Drums 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards (Larger than normal...Could there be another Corps Of Drums on the parade?)

  • @tralens Thanks very much for this information - greatly appreciated.

  • Absolutely brilliant! Hope you upload more, if there is any!

    :D Thanks.

  • I wonder if those American girls at 3.46 posing for the camera in front of all those tall men know if they are on You-Tube

  • @emptyangel Thanks mate

  • @bazinesh

    'Europe United'

  • Can anyone tell me the march the Welsh guards are playing.

  • I like the last group. The tune they play on the Flutes is cheerful :)

  • @KnightsbridgeStudios Drum Majors of the Foot Guards are also engaged on operational duties with their regiments so are not always seen on ceremonial parades. They are in charge of the Corps Of Drums of a battalion who can come from a cross section of guardsmen of a battalion company. They have no direct link with the Guards Bands except on ceremonial parades.

  • @KnightsbridgeStudios

It's because there are a disproportionate and ever changing number of drum majors.

Last time I checked there were 3 Grenadier, 1 Coldstream, 1 Welsh and 1 Irish Guard drum majors.

  • Is it just me, or do Guards' drum majors never seem to match the band they are leading. For example, its rare to see a Scots Guards DM leading the band of the Scots Guards, its often one of the other regiments of foot guards. I find it rather strange.

  • @thebigdrum : Thank you for your quick response. I will certainly track down that lead.

I have also become a huge fan of the videos and congratulate you and all others for the great postings.

I now tune in most days for a much looked forward to time with good music and wonderful bands.
