Ahwatukee Resident Creates Eco-Friendly Kitty Litter from Used Tires

John King shredded his old car tires and realized the scraps reminded him of something...cat litter. King invented EnviroKats, an eco-friendly kitty litter made from recycled tires. He also designed a box that drains out from the bottom to go along with the litter. To clean the box you simply scoop out the solids. King said when you notice an odor coming from the box you wash it out and then drain the liquids from the bottom. Cheri Minauri, who runs a cat rescue out of her Gilbert home, has bought three of King's boxes. Minauri said that the cats at her AJs Best Friends Persian and Himalayan Rescue love the boxes.
