First (of five) part of the 2008 Channel-4 documentary 'God Strikes Back'. The documentary is part of the series 'The Genius of Darwin'.

In this final episode Dawkins examines why Darwin's theory remains one of the most controversial ideas in history.

Highlights of this episode include a science teacher who believes the world is less than 10,000 years old, the Archbishop of Canterbury being made to look like an intellectual cretin, and an insight into the hate mail which Professor Dawkins receives from 'good christian folk' for his outspoken support of science over mumbo-jumbo.

As Darwin set out on the voyage on the Beagle he still believed that god created the world and everything in it. But the evidence he discovered - fossils, patterns of anatomical resemblance, startling similarities of embryos and domestic breeding - demonstrated the truth: that all life forms vary and that some are more likely to reproduce, passing variations on.

  • @jq747 That's not the right attitude brother, keep your eyes open, inform yourself. That's how you fight ignorance!

  • I don't think I can watch this whole show... it just makes me too angry. Angry at the mind-numbing stupidity of people in the 21st century, still clinging to their stone-age voodoo belief systems. I wish they'd all wake the f**k up.

  • @MegaYiwen A seemingly reasonable person who's been indoctrinated.

  • ever heard of hindsight, idiot

  • I didn't know there was a sequel to "The Root of All Evil?".

  • @MegaYiwen Pretty retarded.

  • @MegaYiwen Dawkins supports and articulates a nonbelief that many share and struggle with. Unfortunately, not everyone is as simple-minded as you in needing a messiah for every viewpoint.

  • @MegaYiwen I actually just recently starting listening to Dawkins, I've been an atheist probably since about half way through my first year as an undergraduate.

  • @ehandkz talking about free thinking , i wonder what your thinking would be if it wasnt for people such as dawkins ? would you think for yourself or just be a lost sheep in need of a shepherd ,

  • @MegaYiwen Almost to the point where you can think for yourself.
