Pianist Martin Spitznagel debuts his composition "Marty's Blues" at the First Unitarian Church in Pittsburgh, PA, on March 28, 2009.

The piece, written for my grandfather, is the second in the "Sonnet Suite," a collection of pieces written for my grandparents. The first, "Theresa's Novelette," was written for my grandmother who sadly passed away in November 2008. I was blessed, however, to have my grandfather in the front row at this debut performance. It meant a great deal to me to get to perform it for him, and I'm posting this video so he can listen to it whenever he wants! He is my namesake and my inspiration.

  • Thanks a lot Martin to provide such LOVELY compositions.

I just can't get enough of this. You bridge the gap between the ragtime era and the Mayerl novelties with great achievement. Congratulations !

I am longing for the other tunes right now !

  • @alexcortot Delighted you like them! Billy Mayerl is a huge inspiration for me, absolutely. You can hear his influence most profoundly in my "Theresa Novelette," but he sneaks into all my compositions nowadays :D Thanks very much for listening.

  • This has got to be one of the best contemporary rags today! Fantastic, Martin!

  • Thanks, Will! I hear you're doing some composing yourself. Can't wait to hear!

  • finally someone on youtube who has composition talent. Keep up the good work bro.

  • Many thanks! Will do :D

  • Thanks, Bryan! You and Yuko made these videos possible. Now that I'm back in town, I've begun work on our "Cantina Band" video. Should be up soon :D
