This is the first part of a two part discussion regarding two different epistemologies (big word meaning "way we know stuff"). The first part looks at the theoretical aspects of obj v sub, and the second will look at the practical implications for the way we understand faith in light of these epistemologies.

  • That is not an accurate narration of Schrodinger's cat...

  • I don't believe we are still talking about the Cat. If you shook the box violently. Sure, one might not know if the Cat is alive or not until one opens the box. But, the Cat knows if he is alive or not. So there will be no undecided state of the Cat's life.

"God does not role dice". Much more interesting is that probablity does not implie complete random. The result must be 1,2,3,4,5,6. Not 4.5.

  • There's a better way to describe the superposition (dead and alive at the same time) the cat is in: you put a container with poison in the box that will break as soon as an atom decays. The atom's half-life is a certain time "t" and after that time "t" has passed, the probability of the atom decaying and as a result of that the container breaking and the cat dying is exactly 50%. At this point, there is no way to check from the outside whether the cat is alive or dead. Nice discussion btw :D

  • Naw, how hard you shook the box determines whether the cat is alive or dead ;)
