If anyone thinks farming is a simple operation for simple minds, think again. First, combines, large tractors and sprayers sell for $300k-500k+ a copy. Then there's the soil science and precise irrigation which must be uniform over an area of thousands of acres, endless environmental and food regulations, on call veterinarians, unpredictable weather response, the ups and downs of community pool marketing, maybe even employee visa/immigration issues. Petersons, our hats are off to you!

You're kidding right? Where do you think the grocery stores get the food from? Less than two percent of people in the US directly work on food production. A larger percentage works for producing and distributing, but without the first 2% we wouldn't eat.

I have the most respect for all farmers. The problem is that the food industry decided to take cheap corn and reconstruct it into products that looks like real food. Just add chemicals and artificial flavors to get it to taste and look like what it is supposed to resemble. Example; mix water, corn syrup, artificial flavor and color and you can call it "maple syrup". Is it really maple syrup? No. Take the same ingredients and it becomes coca cola, or mocha mix or a huge list of other products.

Ha, the "Then" was just to point out another mistake, doesn't matter :P . Things balance each other out, I do suppose factories supply us with fertilizer, but some farmers don't use fertilizer, they use slurry (animal manure agitated up). Still, it is not worth an argument, farmers do work hard, very hard, I don't think there can be an argument to that, and I am a son of a farmer, and my education doesn't suck... It was an interesting conversation anyway...
