I use soldier flies to feed my chickens; I keep a big plastic composter inside the chicken pen. The floor of the pen is covered in deep mulch, and when the soldier flies mature they dig out of the compost bin and into the mulch to pupate. In summer, the chickens maintain a trench around the composter. If you google "Black Soldier Fly Blog" you will find a permaculturist in the Southeast who sells an elaborate soldier fly system, which allows you to catch the larvae to feed fish.
Thank you for that blog tip. I checked it. It is a good resource on the soldier flies.
