The best production of Figaro in a film, which stayed true to the classic original design, costumes, sets and Mozartian spirit. A highly recommended film for any opera collector; Dieskau, despite repeated criticism by some, is excellent as the Count, Prey as Figaro is by far the best, Freni is a delightful Susanna and Kiri Te Kanawa as the Countess to top it all off....the best Figaro of all time

After the magnificent Erich Kleiber recording, Bohm's FIGARO would be my second choice and we are fortunate to have it in the wonderful film by Ponnelle; Dame Kiri's Countess is sublime and the whole cast is inspired.
