@ididjaustralia I am trying to understand, from a very far distance away... I saw on the 12 Canoes website a dog and flying fox creation story that I think was Johnny? But I think from the movie that David Gulpilil's creation story is water goanna. I don't really understand, of course... but I am trying.

Myself, I am not mining or anything like that - I am a middle-aged woman from the northeast US (mostly Maine, and Maine at the moment) with a lifelong interest in traditional Australian culture. Lately I have been very taken with the film 10 Canoes, and also I have a distant cousin in Australia (Mornington) who is very much interested in Aboriginal affairs, and keeps me up on the news. But I am also just someone on the internet, so yeah, you are right.

Anyone who has not seen Kurddal as the 'ancient ancestor' Ridjimiraril in the film '10 Canoes' should do so right quick. He's wonderful, and so is the film.
