From Wikipedia:
O'Donoghue's Opera is an Irish film starring Ronnie Drew and his bandmates in The Dubliners. The film is a mock opera, based on the ballad "The Night That Larry Was Stretched". It was shot in 1965, but was left uncompleted after the film's production ran into financial difficulties. In 1996 filmmaker Sé Merry Doyle oversaw its restoration, and it was first shown at the Dublin Film Festival in the late 1990s.

  • whats that song 'round the 3rd minute, when the girls sing?

  • It's called The Merry Ploughboy - the dubliners do a great version of it. Im pretty sure the girls playin it are the Grehan Sisters.

  • At last, what a joy and tribute to Ronnie. Well done and many, many thanks.

  • My mum and her friend Constance worked on this film. She met my dad (Dylan lookeelikey at 1.01). An emotional thing watching it for me, - being sweeter for growing up around amazing music and artists..some benefits to being the child of hippies... :)

  • I became a fan of The Dubs after Bobby Lynch had left so i never had the pleasure of ever seeing him. Seen all the other members. Came across this by pure chance. Many thanks to whoever put this on view. Its taken 47 years but at least now i've seen him on film.

  • Man...how sad is that wee "Still I love him" song.
