neil peart can drum. that is for sure. however, his outlining the backbeat so conspicuously is very telling - HE IS A ROCK DRUMMER. HE ALWAYS WILL BE A ROCK DRUMMER. see him switch from traditional to matchgrip when he really got into it? not taking anything away from him - he is a monster - but he should leave jazz alone. he lacks the sensibility for it. and i'd put my money on a mediocre jazz drummer over an amazing rock drummer any day.
