World 9 and its four "challenging" stages can only be reached by completing all of the first eight worlds. These are the TRUE lost levels. Truth be told, the real challenge is just getting there.
How do you get there? Don't use warp zones. Period. The use of any warp zones (even the ones that send you back to a previous world) will lock out World 9. In Super Mario All-Stars (i.e. The game you're watching), even if you've completed the game AND played through world 9, use of a warp zone will still lock out world 9 and make it inaccessible in that file.
And before anyone asks, the block in level 9-4 spell out the Japanese characters for "Arigatou!" which means "Thank you!" in Japanese.
Also note that World 9, and the worlds after it (Worlds A through D), do not exist in Super Mario Bros. Deluxe.
