A portrayal like this wouldn't fly today, but it's not as bad as I had expected. His depiction is no worse than that of Mantan Moreland and his character appears to be treated with more respect than what was usually allotted. B'rer Rabbit has the same manner of speech and he looks as if he's about to tear up at the thought of leaving Uncle Remus. Could you imagine a Scarlet O'Hara from the Gone With the Wind bidding Slim a tearful farewell?

No, Disney didn't re-release it because they didn't want narrow-minded people bashing it over a so-called "racist" (i.e. nonexistent) theme!
