  • I'm in the process of getting ready to go for a 1 week trial to find out for sure if I have Adult ADHD.

I've read up a lot on it and I can totally relate to hyperfocus.

I just saw a mini-doc saying Adult ADHD is a myth. What a pile of shit. You can't say that unless you have it or believe you have it because you don't know what it's like.

  • That's totally true. People who aren't ADD don't get that it's like a ping-pong game inside your head that does't stop. You go at a million miles faster.

Good luck with your evaluation. That can help to solved some issues you might be having. It's important to get a good diagnosis. Adult ADHD is real!

  • besides i doubt the person posting this movie is trustworthy for the fact it looks like a fraud website, there's no doubt having hyperfocus is lovely.

While I know how to activate it and when i can't it's still annoying to hyperfocus when people are around since most people can only get such a tense concentration if they're obsessed and they start think you're obsessed.

Still, hyperfocus is known in autism and i think many pdd nos labeled kids are ADD kids.

  • Hey PieJee... No, the site isn't a scam. Tellman is ADHD and his site is there to help people with that issue. He speaks from experience.

Hyperfocus is great, in the right situation. When you learn to control it, you can be incredible!

  • Don't believe this crap. There is no such thing as ADD "instant success." Talk to your psychologist, learn about behavioral interventions (e.g. making to-do-lists, rewarding your self for activities, etc.), and seek appropriate medical interventions if necessary. I have ADD, and I have been dealing with it since childhood. I'm in a doctoral program in psychology, and have learned the hard-way that coping with this stuff takes time and effort.

  • Holy fuck, I didn't realize I had this!

I get so engrossed in books that I fiver to do shit. Like I was studying how light switches work. I forgot to eat. Then as I was all like "time to eat now, I saw the word superconductor. I then took 2 hours studying that. I never even noticed I was soo insanely hungry!

  • I think I have this.

I could be into somehting and forget I have a pot of water boiling and it boils all the way down.. i wont get it until i start smellling that burnt pot smell lol

or i could be boiling an egg, and get so into something the egg explodes lol

  • Is ADD like this?

Forgetting the stove element is on...for 5 hours?

Forgetting to do your income tax...for 4 years?

Phoning to book an immediate haircut and phoning a hour later to re-book, because you forgot.

Forgetting to check your phone messages for 2 weeks. Your BUSINESS phone.

Forgetting to bill someone for the $1000.00 that they owe?

Forgetting to get a tuneup for your car - for 6 years!

Leaving the barbeque on - OVERNIGHT?

Just curious - a friend of mine does these sort of things

  • m 19 i cant study and focus.my mind starts wandering ,daydreaming a lot.i used to be good at studies in school but from around age 15 i find studies very hard.i feel anxious around in crowd, neither i want to be left alone.i dont like doing boring stuff or things that are not easy.Do i have ADHD/ADD or nothing ?

  • @CarlZigZags

i used to have that problem too, but i learned that simplicity and patterns are great tools if you have add.

break down a specific routine and that is "remembering the 3's":

cell, wallet, keys...... cell wallet keys, cell wallet keys, cell wallet keys.

always check for them like these items are a part of your body. you will then build an automatic sense to check every time you leave a spot.

if you forget to build the routine, just continue doing it. it builds up.

  • I feel bad because I can't always remember things I should, for example where I left my keys, or to call a specific client on the day I said, and if I do, to bring up all all the points in intend to discuss.

But I have an impeccable memory with things I take great interest in. I don't consider myself a movie buff, but I can quote many lines from just about any movie, or comedy routine I enjoy. This part of my memory astounds people.

I wish I had more control over my apparent powerful memory.

  • but you cannot maintain the momentum and attention to follow through that task, simply because its not interesting / stimulating enough.

Hyper-focus isn't a good thing, its a product of a brain out of balance, there is some benefit but a lot of disability.

Ultimately the cingulate needs to "cool-down" and the PFC needs to "juice-back-up". This will make for a clean, unbiased focus on all things, not just obsessions / daydreams.

  • True. Things that interests you are able to take a lot of time of a person with ADD since they are so vulnerable to addiction (they get obsessive with stuff that they find interesting). You can't turn on hyper focus, it happens naturally, mostly without the person himself even noticing until someone already called out to him for two or more times. I have it when watching movies mostly.

  • BS. I guess that's why I skipped through the rest of the video just past 15 seconds, and started saying how stupid this was. ... Even though I get the point.. Still.
