Cover of Joanna Newsom's 'Cosmia' on the harp. Using the sheet music from http://jntp.110mb.com/
(I know I messed up a tiny bit in the middle, but I didn't have space or battery on the camera to re-record.) =]
Cosmia
When you ate,
I saw your eyelashes.
Saw them shake like
wind on rushes.
In the cornfield,
when she called me
Moths surround me.
Thought theyd drown me.
And I miss your precious heart.
Dried rose petals
redbrown circles
framed your eyes and
stained your knuckles.
And all those lonely nights
down by the river,
you brought me bread and water
(Water, in.);
But though I tried so hard,
my little darling,
I couldnt keep the night from coming.
And all those lonely nights
down by the river,
I was brought my bread and water
by the kith and the kin;
Now in the quiet hour,
when I am sleeping,
I cannot keep the night from coming in.
Whyve you gone away?
Gone away again?
Ill sleep through the rest of my days,
if youve gone away again.
Sleep through the rest of my days.
Whyve you gone away.
Seven suns away.
Can you hear me? Will you listen?
Dont come near me. Dont go missing.
In the lissome light of evening:
Help me, Cosmia; Im grieving.
And all those lonely nights
down by the river,
You brought me bread and water
(Water, in.);
But though I tried so hard,
my little darling,
I couldnt keep the night from coming in.
And all those lonely nights
down by the river
I was brought my bread and water
by the kith and the kin;
Now in the quiet hour,
when I am sleeping,
I cannot keep the night from coming in.
*
Beneath the porch-light
weve all been circling.
Beat our dust hearts;
singe our flour wings.
But in the corner,
something is happening!
Wild Cosmia, what have you seen?
Water were your limbs,
and the fire was your hair
and then the moonlight caught your eye,
and you rose through the air
well, if youve seen true light,
then this is my prayer:
will you call me, when you get there?
And I miss your precious heart;
and miss, and miss, and miss,
& miss, & miss, &
miss, & miss, & miss your heart.
But release your precious heart,
to its feast, for precious hearts.
and would I have to learn to to read notes? or could i have a teacher just teach me? I took piano lessons and im pretty pretty bad at reading notes. :P

@hollaye69 Well being able to read notes is always helpful... but if you're okay playing piano without reading notes then you'd be okay playing harp without reading notes I think.... It probably depends on if your teacher insists really :P
Harp isn't that hard, you just need perseverance like with most instruments :P plus it sounds nice even with simple pieces ^_^

sszreter, Is there any way to play joanna songs on a lever harp? I'm really considering getting a harp for my own benefit, but I would love to play her songs. Any advice? Do you play a pedal harp?

@mdodenhoff Yeah a lot of her songs can be played on lever harps as there isn't much key changing - anything in 7 flats just play in C major... You would have to tune it into a different key from C major if you wanted to play anything in F major or Bb Major, but that can be done relatively easily :)
Tbh, Cosmia is one of the main pieces that you wouldn't be able to play easily because there are so many key changes and accidentals... You also may not have enough range for the base notes...

you just made me want learn harp. think i'll go buy one. Is it difficult. I can already read music and play a little guitar and piano??

Everyone says it's difficult... but I play piano too and I don't think harp is much harder than that myself... you'll get blisters but you're probably used to that from guitar =]
