You get the extra life when you get the same ranking three times. So you would've gotten the extra life, for instance, if you had gotten first three times in a row.

@NintendoCapriSun WHAT?! DUUUuuuuude! You have to play the 1st because:
1.Better storyline
2.Better battle mechanics
and 3.Just a better overall atmosphere of the game.

I didn't even know that you ever played Symponia DOTNW or SMK.
Though I beat the first and second now, Symponia 1 was better, but I still liked 2.
