Composite elements to Cartoon Cat animation...

...This vid is a response to the "Speed Painting a Cartoon Cat" vid. I threw this together real quick, cuz I can see I'm gonna get "how" questions regarding the whole animation process at the end of that video. I can't really delve into the specifics, except to say that it was done in Newtek's Lightwave- which is a great program for "animating your paintings" and concept art, without having to strive for the traditional standard finished 3D look you see in today's movies. I think thre is a lot of unexplored ground out there in certain styles of animation involving such.

I have found (for this technique) that Lightwave is the fastest way to accomplishing these techniques when you are on a time budget. Their website:

Anyway-- here are the composites, as well as a peak at the rig. 3D people might be able to dissect these clips pretty easily, figure out what I did. (note: the first clip is just a low res RAM preview, hence the spotty resolution)

I took a class to learn about this last year at my high school but instead of using Lightwave we used Maya. That class was hell, that class was so hard for me i just ended up not doing anything and taking the failing grade.

Did you paint some extra texture work on the hands to make them 3D? Does the character also have polygons (surfaces) on the back side where you can't see?
